Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer had the chance to take a little break from talking vampires and werewolves at the Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere. During one of her interviews she was asked about her next project, bringing The Host to life onscreen. Also, Stephenie gives us an update on the next two novels in The Host Trilogy. She states that she has some of the next two novels written, but nothing is set to be released anytime soon.

Saoirse Ronan was also mentioned in the interview, and like many fans of the book, Stephenie was skeptical at first with her playing the role of Melanie. But she has seen her acting skills and has no doubt that she can bring the character to life.

Max Irons Confirmed to Play Jared Howe and Jake Abel to Play Ian O’Shea

Posted on Nov 11, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

You heard right! We have gotten word that Max Irons will indeed be playing one of the lead hunks, Jared Howe. Entertainment Weekly has announced the new acting role for The Host.

According to Melanie, here is how she describes Jared when she flashes his face into Wanderer’s mind just after implantation: “This face was a hard rectangle, the shape of the bones strong under the skin. In color it was a light golden brown. The hair was just a few shades darker than the skin, except where flaxen streaks lightened it, and it covered only the head. The circular irises in the while eyeballs were darker than the hair but, like the hair, flexed with light. There were small lines around the eyes, and her memories told me the lines were from smiling and squinting into sunlight.”

Max Irons is pictured to the left. What do you think? Sounds like Melanie’s description?

But that’s not all! In this article they also inform us that Ian O’Shea has also been cast! Jake Abel will take on the role of Wanderer’s soulmate.

Wanderer described Ian as tall and muscular with dark hair and blue eyes. We have Jake pictured to the right.

Here’s the article directly from Entertainment Weekly online:

Irons, son of Oscar-winning and golden-throated actor Jeremy Irons, was last seen in this year’s Red Riding Hood. For this project, he joins director Andrew Niccol (In Time,Gattaca) and the long-attached Saoirse Ronan, who will play Melanie Stryder, a young woman who shares her body with an alien force known as Wanderer. Since no Meyer novel is complete without some complicated relationship geometry, Jake Abel has been cast in the role of Ian, a man who falls in love with Wanderer despite the fact that she is in the body of Melanie who is in love with Jared. Fans of the book, may I suggest you start preparing your visual aids and PowerPoint explanations now.

The film will begin shooting in February in Louisiana and then New Mexico and will mark one of the first productions for Open Road Films, a young distribution company backed by AMC and Regal theater chains.

Welcome to the cast Jake and Max! The film just reached its level of hotness! Anyone else already drooling over these two? There is definitely some potential in these new cast members. They chose the actors perfectly!

We will be working on the cast pages once we get confirmation from a few other sources, and let all of you know when we have them posted.

Stay tuned for more casting choices to be announced soon!

Saoirse Ronan Talks “The Host”, Fashion, and Guys with Xpose

Posted on Oct 30, 2011 by Isabell with 2 Comments.

Xpose had the chance to catch up with Saoirse Ronan (aka Melanie Stryder and Wanderer) while she was at the red carpet opening event for The Adventures of Tintin in Ireland. Xpose interviewed her, asking about her love life (which she had no intention talking about), her fashion sense, as well as her role in The Host.

When asked about her upcoming films, Saoirse mentioned that she will start filming The Host next year. She confirmed that she will indeed be playing the part of both Melanie and Wanderer. With the success of Stephenie Meyer’s first films from The Twilight Saga, Saoirse is a little nervous about following in Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner’s footsteps. Unlike the filming of the Saga, Stephenie Meyer will be more hands on with filming The Host.

To watch the video of the interview go here.

Oh, no worries Saoirse! She is an extremely talented actress and should have no worries in filming The Host. What a lot of Stephenie Meyer fans need to understand is that The Twilight Saga and The Host are two completely different stories and should, in no way , be compared to the other. It shouldn’t have to come down to “Is she going to be as good as Kristen Stewart as Bella?” No. Melanie Stryder and Bella Swan are two completely different characters in two completely different world. The only thing they have in common is the author who created them.

I don’t mean to rant on about that, but she should not have to think she needs to live up to the success of the other films. This is a whole new world that The Host fans get to enjoy seeing come to life. I am both a Twilight and Host fan, but I know where to cross the line when it comes to each film.

What are your thoughts?

“The Host” to be released in March of 2013

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 by Isabell with 1 Comment.

The release date for The Host has been announced! We’ve got some casting info released, director, distributors, and now a release date and filming date!

As we all know, Soarse Ronan is still set to star as Melanie Stryder as well as the Soul that inhabits Melanie’s body, Wanderer. As of right now there are no other roles filled. It’s still not officially released yet that she is playing the role, but she’s not going around denying it!

With the Distribution Rights of the film picked up by Open Road, it was obvious the release date was soon to follow. With The Host being it’s first title to be dated for release!

Andrew Niccol is still set to direct The Host, and filming will be starting in February of 2012! This means that the film will be released on March 29, 2013!

This is hot off the press from The Hollywood Reporter:

Open Road Films has closed a deal for U.S. distribution rights to Saoirse Ronan starrer The Host—based on Stephenie Meyer‘s best-selling novel—and will release the film on March 29, 2013.

It’s the first Open Road Films title to be dated. The distribution company, headed by veteran executive Tom Ortenberg, is a joint venture of AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment.

Director Andrew Niccol is scheduled to begin being shooting The Host in February 2012 in Louisiana and New Mexico from his adapted screenplay.
The Host is about an alien race called Souls which take over Earth, and inhabit the bodies of humans. But when one “wild” human refuses to succumb, she and the alien spirit become unwilling allies and set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

The Host producers are Nick Wechsler, Paula Mae Schwartz, Steve Schwartz and Stephenie Meyer. Marc Butan, Jim Siebel and Inferno Entertainment’s Bill Johnson are executive producers, with Inferno handling international sales.

“I’m thrilled to be adding another fantastic partner to an already amazing group. Everyone involved has so much passion for the project. It really is a dream team,” Meyer said in a statement.

It may seem like March 2013 is too far away, but we will have plenty to keep us busy! We still have to get through the rest of the filming, stills that will be released as filming continues on. Official posters and merchandise to be released, teaser trailers, and official trailers, clips, and not to mention plenty of contests from yours truely, The Host Fandom to win newly released merchandise and even movie tickets!

So buckle up, Hosters, we have an amazing ride coming up.

Open Road To Acquire U.S. Distribution On Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

The time is finally here! The Distribution rights have been sold! Open Road is a new company who’ve only acquired one other film besides The HostKiller Elite is the first film Open Road distributed. It’s set for a September 23rd release.

Open Road was created by popular movie chains such as, AMC and Regal. Besides this company, there were three others in line to scoop up the films rights.

This comes directly from Deadline:

Open Road, the upstart distribution company formed by theater chains AMC and Regal, is making its second big acquisition. Tom Ortenberg’s company is acquiring domestic distribution rights to The Host, the Andrew Niccol-directed adaptation of Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer’s novel. I’m told that the there were at least three other distributors trying to get this and that the deal will be a seven-figure minimum guarantee, a healthy P&A commitment, and gross for participants that include the author.Saoirse Ronan is set to play heroine Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls, parasites that invade human bodies, fuse to each person’s consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. Melanie is captured by the aliens and implanted by a Soul called Wanderer. While Wanderer’s goal is to get Melanie to give up the remaining pockets of humans, the alien finds Melanie to be unique in her unwillingness to surrender her consciousness. Wanderer is so overwhelmed by Melanie’s memories and feelings that she is driven to reconnect with Melanie’s old life, which includes falling for Melanie’s boyfriend. The result is a complex, romantic and emotional human/alien love triangle. Nick Wechsler, Meyer, Paula Mae Schwartz and Steve Schwartz are producing. Inferno’s Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec producers and Roger Schwartz is co-producer.

Finally! Now let’s get the show on the road! Never heard of Open Road, so we will see how things go.

‘The Host’ does well at 2011 Cannes Market

Posted on May 16, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer has been busy, not only working on wrapping up filming of Breaking Dawn, but also working on potential buyers for The Host. At the 2011 Cannes Market, Stephenie did extremely well! The rights to the film have been picked up all over the world!

Though we’re still waiting on the US, Stephenie has sold rights to other Countries including; Italy, Benelux, Australia, Greece and Switzerland, Russia, Iceland, Isreal, Hong Kong, Latin America, Scandinavia, Turkey, Portugal, and China.

Some Countries that are still in negotiation are; Canada and South Korea. But with the majority of the Countries on board, it’s only a matter of time before Canada and South Korea settle, and the US jumps on the wagon.

Seems as though many Countries were eager to scoop up anything from Stephenie Meyer. With the success of Twilight shooting her to the top, it’s not wonder The Host was spread across the world so quickly. Even though both series by Stephenie Meyer are completely different, the author has a gift in writing, and the Twilight phenomenon is only a preview of what this talented writer can do.

With the movie rights sold across the world, it’s time to nail down some filming details. It’s been noted that filming for The Host will begin in January of 2012, with an estimated release in late 2012 or early 2013.

Variety has all the details:

EXCLUSIVE: Inferno Entertainment has nearly pre-sold all international territories for Stephenie Meyer’s pic “The Host,” one of the hot titles at this year’s Cannes market.

Pic, from “The Twilight Saga” scribe and toplining Saoirse Ronan, went to Entertainment Film Distributors in Blighty, Metropolitan Filmexport in France, DeAPlaneta in Spain and TeleMunchen for Germany and Switzerland.

Other deals include Italy (Eagle), Benelux (Independent Films), Australia (Hoyts), Greece and Cyprus (Italia Film), Iceland (Sam Film), Russia (West), Israel (United King), Portugal (Lusomundo), Scandinavia (Mis Label), Turkey (Italia Film), Latin America (Swen), Hong Kong (Tomson Intl.) and China (Fundamental Films).

Deals for Canada and South Korea are in final negotiations and while the pic has yet to nab a U.S. release, Inferno is in advanced discussions with several domestic distribs.

Pic, helmed by Andrew Niccol (who also adapted the screenplay of Meyer’s tome), is produced by Paula Mae Schwartz, Steve Schwartz, Nick Wechsler and Meyer while Inferno’s Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec-producers. Roger Schwartz serves as co-producer.

Producers are financing the pic with Inferno, which kicked off sales with a bang in Cannes last week. Meyer descended upon the Croisette to meet with buyers. The efforts proved worthwhile as pic had bidding wars in multiple territories all keen to get their hands on the next project from the woman behind the “Twilight” cash cow.

Pic is eyeing a January start date.

For Inferno, this market experience was likely to echo its experience at AFM in November, when pre-sales on Brad Pitt and Richard Jenkins’ starrer “Cogan’s Trade,” drew a flurry of deals with international distribs before the Weinstein Co. snapped it up for the U.S. in January.

How exciting! Not surprised the film was bought around the world so quickly.

Not too sure about having to wait until 2012 to start filming! Must…. keep…. patient… Is it January yet?
