Stephenie Meyer Talks ‘The Host’ Sequels and Saoirse Ronan

Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer had the chance to take a little break from talking vampires and werewolves at the Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere. During one of her interviews she was asked about her next project, bringing The Host to life onscreen. Also, Stephenie gives us an update on the next two novels in The Host Trilogy. She states that she has some of the next two novels written, but nothing is set to be released anytime soon.

Saoirse Ronan was also mentioned in the interview, and like many fans of the book, Stephenie was skeptical at first with her playing the role of Melanie. But she has seen her acting skills and has no doubt that she can bring the character to life.

Stephenie Meyer to Produce “Austenland”

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer first branched out from being an author, to making her first cameo in her very first novel-to-film adaptation Twilight. The talented author doesn’t stop there! She’s branched out and produced the final two films to her last novel in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Stephenie will also be one of the producers for her next novel-to-film adaptation of The Host.

Another first for Stephenie is that she will be producing a film that has nothing to do with her novels. Austenland is a novel written by a friend of hers, Shannon Hale.

The novel was written back in 2007 and as far as a release date for the film, it has yet to be announced.

The actors associated with the film are Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart, and James Callis.

Directing the film is Jerusha Hess, who also helped Shannon Hale write the screenplay for the film. Stephenie Meyer will be producing under her very own company, which is co-owned with Meghan Tilly, Fickle Fish Films.

The books decription is as follows, directly from Examiner:

In 32-year-old singleton Jane Hayes’s mind, no man in the world can measure up to Fitzwilliam Darcy—specifically the Fitzwilliam played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Jane is forced to confront her Austen obsession when her wealthy great-aunt Carolyn dies and leaves her an all-expenses-paid vacation to Pembrook Park, a British resort where guests live like the characters in Jane’s beloved Austen novels. Jane sees the trip as an opportunity for one last indulgence of her obsession before she puts it “all behind her—Austen, men, fantasies, period,” but the lines between reality and fiction become pleasantly blurred as Jane acclimates to the world of Spencer jackets and stringent etiquette rules, and finds herself torn between the Darcyesque Mr. Nobley and a forbidden tryst with Pembrook Park’s gardener. Though the narrative is endlessly charming, Jane is convincing neither as a sarcastic single girl nor as a romantic idealist, and the supporting cast is underdeveloped. Nods to Austen are abundant in contemporary women’s fiction, and an intriguing setup and abundant wit are not enough to make this one stand out.

Way to go Stephenie! Her writing skills are spectacular, so producing should be a snap! She’s got her hands full the next few years… hope she has some down time to get those next to novels out from The Host series!

‘The Host’ does well at 2011 Cannes Market

Posted on May 16, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer has been busy, not only working on wrapping up filming of Breaking Dawn, but also working on potential buyers for The Host. At the 2011 Cannes Market, Stephenie did extremely well! The rights to the film have been picked up all over the world!

Though we’re still waiting on the US, Stephenie has sold rights to other Countries including; Italy, Benelux, Australia, Greece and Switzerland, Russia, Iceland, Isreal, Hong Kong, Latin America, Scandinavia, Turkey, Portugal, and China.

Some Countries that are still in negotiation are; Canada and South Korea. But with the majority of the Countries on board, it’s only a matter of time before Canada and South Korea settle, and the US jumps on the wagon.

Seems as though many Countries were eager to scoop up anything from Stephenie Meyer. With the success of Twilight shooting her to the top, it’s not wonder The Host was spread across the world so quickly. Even though both series by Stephenie Meyer are completely different, the author has a gift in writing, and the Twilight phenomenon is only a preview of what this talented writer can do.

With the movie rights sold across the world, it’s time to nail down some filming details. It’s been noted that filming for The Host will begin in January of 2012, with an estimated release in late 2012 or early 2013.

Variety has all the details:

EXCLUSIVE: Inferno Entertainment has nearly pre-sold all international territories for Stephenie Meyer’s pic “The Host,” one of the hot titles at this year’s Cannes market.

Pic, from “The Twilight Saga” scribe and toplining Saoirse Ronan, went to Entertainment Film Distributors in Blighty, Metropolitan Filmexport in France, DeAPlaneta in Spain and TeleMunchen for Germany and Switzerland.

Other deals include Italy (Eagle), Benelux (Independent Films), Australia (Hoyts), Greece and Cyprus (Italia Film), Iceland (Sam Film), Russia (West), Israel (United King), Portugal (Lusomundo), Scandinavia (Mis Label), Turkey (Italia Film), Latin America (Swen), Hong Kong (Tomson Intl.) and China (Fundamental Films).

Deals for Canada and South Korea are in final negotiations and while the pic has yet to nab a U.S. release, Inferno is in advanced discussions with several domestic distribs.

Pic, helmed by Andrew Niccol (who also adapted the screenplay of Meyer’s tome), is produced by Paula Mae Schwartz, Steve Schwartz, Nick Wechsler and Meyer while Inferno’s Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec-producers. Roger Schwartz serves as co-producer.

Producers are financing the pic with Inferno, which kicked off sales with a bang in Cannes last week. Meyer descended upon the Croisette to meet with buyers. The efforts proved worthwhile as pic had bidding wars in multiple territories all keen to get their hands on the next project from the woman behind the “Twilight” cash cow.

Pic is eyeing a January start date.

For Inferno, this market experience was likely to echo its experience at AFM in November, when pre-sales on Brad Pitt and Richard Jenkins’ starrer “Cogan’s Trade,” drew a flurry of deals with international distribs before the Weinstein Co. snapped it up for the U.S. in January.

How exciting! Not surprised the film was bought around the world so quickly.

Not too sure about having to wait until 2012 to start filming! Must…. keep…. patient… Is it January yet?

Stephenie Meyer Mentions ‘The Host’ in Interview With ‘Twilight’ Fans

Posted on Mar 31, 2011 by Isabell with 2 Comments.

We all know what we would do if we got to meet Stephenie Meyer– scream our heads off! A small group of extremely lucky fans got the chance to sit down with the best selling author for The Twilight Saga.

The group of girls got to ask Stephenie Meyer whatever questions they desired. Some asked about her future projects, Twilight, and one question about The Host.

Stephenie has previously mentioned that she has an obsession for mermaids, and one question about her future projects she answered that she is indeed working on writing the book. She stated that she has two she’s been thinking about. Her mermaid book does indeed have an outline, but she’s not working on that right now. She reveals that it will be yet another big book for us fans to read. It’s going to be about 1,000 pages.

Another book she talked about was one story of a seventeen-year-old girl living in a world of magic, bows and arrows, and is much darker than her other novels.

In this interview she was also asked about her status on continuing with The Host series. She answered that she has the complete outline for the next installment done as well as the first two chapters written!

Stephenie was even asked a burning question about Renesmee and Jacob ever able to have children in the future. She refused to answer that stating that she just might be going back to write their story. So this could mean it’s not the end for some of the epic characters of The Twilight Saga! The legend might live on with the next generation.

Here’s some of the interview from USA Today:

In roundtable discussions with Meyer at a Vancouver hotel, the winners discuss with finesse and endless authority vampire anatomy, werewolf legends, the back stories of the series’ minor characters and, of course, the Edward/Bella/Jacob love triangle. (Jacob is the werewolf who also loves Bella and is played in the films by the often shirtless Taylor Lautner.) But like seasoned journalists (many of these fans blog about the series), they’re also here to ferret out juicy details: When will Meyer publish a new novel? What’s it like being on the Twilight film set? What’s new in The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide, a 543-page encyclopedic companion that Little, Brown will publish in hardcover for $24.99 on April 12? (The e-book will be available for $11.99 on April 13.) Meyer, relaxed and happy to share, tells them plenty:

•On the illustrated guide: “My favorite part is the vampire histories. There’s a lot there that’s new. Alice’s (Cullen) back story is one no one has known until now. And I think fans will be surprised at how much fun (Cullen nemesis) Victoria’s story is.”

•On whether she’ll ever write more books about Edward and Bella: “The story’s already been told, and I doubt I’ll ever write another series based on the same characters.”

•On the possibility she’d ever finish Midnight Sun, a Twilight novel told from Edward’s viewpoint that she nixed when parts of it were leaked online in 2008: “I’m hoping to do it someday because I know that’s what people want. No matter what book I put out from here to eternity they’ll want Midnight Sun, but I’m just not writing about vampires right now.”

•On an as-yet-untitled book she might publish next: “It’s a fantasy that takes place in another world where people are using bows and arrows and swords. There’s a little bit of magic, but it’s a very limited form of magic. The characters are human, and some have the ability to use magic and some don’t. It’s pretty dark. People die. The main character is a 17-year-old girl, and she’s kind of cool.”

•On another book she might complete and publish: “When I was growing up, I was obsessed with mermaids. I do have a very elaborate outline for a book. I’m not working on it right now, but I have the feeling it’s going to be big. It’s going to be 1,000 pages.”

•On the second book in her three-book adult science-fiction series that began with The Host in 2008: “I have the outline written and the first two chapters. I need to get on it.”

What Meyer says about the filming of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, which because of the expansive story line is being told in two parts. (Part 1 is scheduled for release Nov. 18 and Part 2 in November 2012):

•The much-anticipated wedding of Edward and Bella has not been filmed yet, but Stewart is being fitted for the as-yet-unrevealed bridal gown. “It’s such an interesting mix,” says Meyer. “It has a vintage feel, but at the same time, there’s an edge to it. It’s really beautiful. And then on Kristen — oh, she looks amazing in clothes —and in that dress she’s so lithe and unbelievable.”•On working with Pattinson and Lautner: “Rob is more like Jacob than Edward. He’s goofy, he’s funny, he doesn’t take much seriously. But he can turn Edward on like that (she snaps her fingers) when he needs to be Edward. Taylor’s who we hang out with most. He’s a lot like fun, happy Jacob.”

•On her expanded role as co-producer of the two new movies: “The big difference is just being there and seeing everything. I feel I’ve seen so much of the movie and really understand what it will look like. There are still a lot of compromises. That hasn’t changed. It doesn’t make a huge difference, but I have a producer credit, which is crazy.”

Some mysteries remain One question she won’t answer: whether the werewolf/shape shifter Jacob and Renesmee, the human/vampire hybrid child of Edward and Bella, could ever have children. (Jacob is a teenager, but baby Renesmee is aging at an accelerated rate.) “That is a question I’m reserving the right not to answer, because there is a chance I’ll go back to their story.”

She’s got some of the second installment for The Host, written! Not to mention the entire outline is finished! How exciting! You can read the rest of the interview over at USA Today.

Posted on Feb 01, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

We finally have some photo’s of Stephenie Meyer on set of Breaking Dawn! For those of you who don’t know, Stephenie is one of the producers on both Part 1 and Part 2 of her final novel in the Twilight Saga. This would be the main reason why nothing is moving forward with The Host filming because she’s busy on set. As much as we’re hanging on thin strings for new information on The Host, it’s nice to see Stephenie on set and hanging with her characters. Must be a great feeling to actually be able to talk to Carlisle– a character she created in her head.

Hurry and finish Breaking Dawn, Stephenie! We want to see your Host characters come to life now!
