Stephenie Meyer Talks ‘The Host’ Sequels and Saoirse Ronan

Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer had the chance to take a little break from talking vampires and werewolves at the Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere. During one of her interviews she was asked about her next project, bringing The Host to life onscreen. Also, Stephenie gives us an update on the next two novels in The Host Trilogy. She states that she has some of the next two novels written, but nothing is set to be released anytime soon.

Saoirse Ronan was also mentioned in the interview, and like many fans of the book, Stephenie was skeptical at first with her playing the role of Melanie. But she has seen her acting skills and has no doubt that she can bring the character to life.

Saoirse Ronan Talks “The Host”, Fashion, and Guys with Xpose

Posted on Oct 30, 2011 by Isabell with 2 Comments.

Xpose had the chance to catch up with Saoirse Ronan (aka Melanie Stryder and Wanderer) while she was at the red carpet opening event for The Adventures of Tintin in Ireland. Xpose interviewed her, asking about her love life (which she had no intention talking about), her fashion sense, as well as her role in The Host.

When asked about her upcoming films, Saoirse mentioned that she will start filming The Host next year. She confirmed that she will indeed be playing the part of both Melanie and Wanderer. With the success of Stephenie Meyer’s first films from The Twilight Saga, Saoirse is a little nervous about following in Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner’s footsteps. Unlike the filming of the Saga, Stephenie Meyer will be more hands on with filming The Host.

To watch the video of the interview go here.

Oh, no worries Saoirse! She is an extremely talented actress and should have no worries in filming The Host. What a lot of Stephenie Meyer fans need to understand is that The Twilight Saga and The Host are two completely different stories and should, in no way , be compared to the other. It shouldn’t have to come down to “Is she going to be as good as Kristen Stewart as Bella?” No. Melanie Stryder and Bella Swan are two completely different characters in two completely different world. The only thing they have in common is the author who created them.

I don’t mean to rant on about that, but she should not have to think she needs to live up to the success of the other films. This is a whole new world that The Host fans get to enjoy seeing come to life. I am both a Twilight and Host fan, but I know where to cross the line when it comes to each film.

What are your thoughts?

‘The Host’ does well at 2011 Cannes Market

Posted on May 16, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Stephenie Meyer has been busy, not only working on wrapping up filming of Breaking Dawn, but also working on potential buyers for The Host. At the 2011 Cannes Market, Stephenie did extremely well! The rights to the film have been picked up all over the world!

Though we’re still waiting on the US, Stephenie has sold rights to other Countries including; Italy, Benelux, Australia, Greece and Switzerland, Russia, Iceland, Isreal, Hong Kong, Latin America, Scandinavia, Turkey, Portugal, and China.

Some Countries that are still in negotiation are; Canada and South Korea. But with the majority of the Countries on board, it’s only a matter of time before Canada and South Korea settle, and the US jumps on the wagon.

Seems as though many Countries were eager to scoop up anything from Stephenie Meyer. With the success of Twilight shooting her to the top, it’s not wonder The Host was spread across the world so quickly. Even though both series by Stephenie Meyer are completely different, the author has a gift in writing, and the Twilight phenomenon is only a preview of what this talented writer can do.

With the movie rights sold across the world, it’s time to nail down some filming details. It’s been noted that filming for The Host will begin in January of 2012, with an estimated release in late 2012 or early 2013.

Variety has all the details:

EXCLUSIVE: Inferno Entertainment has nearly pre-sold all international territories for Stephenie Meyer’s pic “The Host,” one of the hot titles at this year’s Cannes market.

Pic, from “The Twilight Saga” scribe and toplining Saoirse Ronan, went to Entertainment Film Distributors in Blighty, Metropolitan Filmexport in France, DeAPlaneta in Spain and TeleMunchen for Germany and Switzerland.

Other deals include Italy (Eagle), Benelux (Independent Films), Australia (Hoyts), Greece and Cyprus (Italia Film), Iceland (Sam Film), Russia (West), Israel (United King), Portugal (Lusomundo), Scandinavia (Mis Label), Turkey (Italia Film), Latin America (Swen), Hong Kong (Tomson Intl.) and China (Fundamental Films).

Deals for Canada and South Korea are in final negotiations and while the pic has yet to nab a U.S. release, Inferno is in advanced discussions with several domestic distribs.

Pic, helmed by Andrew Niccol (who also adapted the screenplay of Meyer’s tome), is produced by Paula Mae Schwartz, Steve Schwartz, Nick Wechsler and Meyer while Inferno’s Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec-producers. Roger Schwartz serves as co-producer.

Producers are financing the pic with Inferno, which kicked off sales with a bang in Cannes last week. Meyer descended upon the Croisette to meet with buyers. The efforts proved worthwhile as pic had bidding wars in multiple territories all keen to get their hands on the next project from the woman behind the “Twilight” cash cow.

Pic is eyeing a January start date.

For Inferno, this market experience was likely to echo its experience at AFM in November, when pre-sales on Brad Pitt and Richard Jenkins’ starrer “Cogan’s Trade,” drew a flurry of deals with international distribs before the Weinstein Co. snapped it up for the U.S. in January.

How exciting! Not surprised the film was bought around the world so quickly.

Not too sure about having to wait until 2012 to start filming! Must…. keep…. patient… Is it January yet?

Andrew Niccol to direct Saoirse Ronan in “The Host”

Posted on May 12, 2011 by Isabell with 1 Comment.

It’s been announced today that Andrew Niccol is back in the director’s chair for Stephenie Meyer’s The Host!

There’s been a rumor floating around as soon as Saoirse Ronan was announced to play the role of Melanie Stryder, that Niccol would be back directing.

Andrew Niccol was originally the director of the film, but had stepped down to work on another project. Susanna White was then said to be the new director for the highly anticipated film.

Deadline exclusively announced the news earlier today that it will indeed be Niccol directing the film. They also mention a little bit more on the casting of Melanie Stryder. Though it hasn’t been released by Chockstone Pictures, Andrew Niccol, or Stephenie Meyer, it does look like Saoirse Ronan could most likely be playing the role.

Here’s what they had to say:

Andrew Niccol has been set as the director of The Host, directing his scripted adaptation of the bestselling novel by Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer. The project, which is being shopped here at Cannes by Inferno Entertainment and producers Nick Wechsler and Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz, will star Saoirse Ronan. After resisting overtures to sell the book, Meyer finally entrusted it with the producers, who gave her strong creative input. She chose Niccol originally because she was a fan of his film Gattaca and script for The Truman Show. While Niccol adapted the book into the current script, he exited to make the film Now, which he has completed with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy starring. The producers went down the road with several directors, but talks with Niccol to return started heating up in recent weeks. Ronan ramped up interest in the film when she was set to star.

Inferno’s Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are executive producers, and Roger Schwartz is co-producer. Inferno and the producers are financing the film, with Inferno kicking off foreign sales this week.“Having Andrew at the helm for us is incredibly invigorating as he truly shares Stephenie’s vision on this film,” said Kimberly Fox, Inferno’s President of International Sales. “We literally began sales this week and the response from the international community, and from domestic buyers, has been beyond our highest expectations. We expect to have every territory in the world sold out very shortly, and then it’s about getting to the exciting part of making the movie.”

Welcome back Andrew! We’re glad to see you back directing!

What do you guys think?

Saoirse Ronan Addresses Being Casted as Melanie Stryder/ Wanderer

Posted on May 05, 2011 by Isabell with No Comments.

Today on Twitter, Saoirse Ronan (aka Melanie Stryder) was interviewed by Glamour Magazine in UK. Fans were able to write in and ask questions.

She did the interview to promote her new film, Hanna. But @TwilightMOMS asked her what she thought about being casted as Melanie/ Wanderer. Her answer was nothing to confirm that she is or is not indeed casted for the lead role. Here’s her tweet back to them: You can check out the rest of the interview over at HannaChat on Twitter.

Well, it’s probably a little too early for her to announce that she’s been casted for the role. It’s understandable that she can’t admit it yet because they’re most likely still getting it together.

We still haven’t heard from the production company, director, or Stephenie Meyer herself, so we’ll just have to be patient for a little longer. But keep in mind that she didn’t say no!

What are your thoughts on all this? I’ve heard from some of you and the feedback has been very positive!
